9/27/11

Hi Everyone!

First, I hope everyone had a good weekend and is ready for the week! The time
for the second general meeting has come! I know, I know, I know, everyone is
very excited! And you should be. This week we'll be playing some old school
playground games to get you moving around a little bit and talking to people.
We'll also have updates about all sorts of queer happenings so you should
definitely be in the Lonestar Room (3.208) in the Texas Union on Wednesday at
5:00 pm.

In case you can't make it to the meeting, here's a quick run down of what we'll
be covering.

- Austin AIDS Walk 2011

QSA will be walking in the Austin AIDS Walk as a part of the Gender and
Sexuality Center's Team. Registration is $20.00 (I know we're in college...but
hey it's a good cause and you get a free shirt day of) and you can do it online
here: asaustin.org or attend the Facebook event here:

- Coming Out Week 2011 Rally-ish(it's a rally but not a rally!)

Coming Out Week 2011 is upon us!...almost. This year Coming Out Week falls on
October 10th - 14th. Each day we'll have different events, film screenings,
dodgeball tournaments, and other such fun happenings culminating in the Big
Coming Out Week 2011 Rally-ish! What's a Big Coming Out Week 2011 Rally-ish you
ask? Basically it's a big gathering of people at the West Mall steps (near the
Tower/FAC) and there are speakers, musical performances, and maybe some
dancing. So really, it's a good ol' Coming Out Week 2011 time.

- QTC

BIG UPDATES. The Queer Texas Conference 2011 has been moved from October 14th
and 15th to November 11th and 12th. One more time! QTC is now on November 11th
and 12th. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but we hope everyone
who had planned on attending/presenting still can or maybe those who could not
attend before...can attend now!

Interview on Sexuality

Hi there,

I write the sex column F*Bomb for the campus paper UWeekly. This semester I'm doing a series on how different student populations at UT view sexuality, dating, and hook ups. I would love to talk to some out, queer students for an upcoming piece. Past columns have covered everything from informed consent and the politics of the word "tranny" to rim jobs and female ejaculation. I can assure you that F*Bomb is 100% LBGTQ supportive and any students who speak with me will always have the option of withholiding their name from publication. If any of the students involved in your organization are interested, please write back at devontincknell at gmail dot com and let me know. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sicnerely,
Devon Tincknell

Weekly Announcements

Hi everyone!

First! I hope you all have a had smooth first week or so of school and that everyone enjoyed the Queer Welcome Carnival 2011. Second! We will be holding our first general meeting of the semester on Wednesday, September 7th @ 5:00 pm in the Gender and Sexuality Center (SAC 2.112). We’ll give a quick run down of our agency and what exactly we do as well as the usual get to know each other games that are required at every first meeting of the semester :) Oh! and there will be pizza so you should definitely drop by for some free food and an awkward name game or two. Facebook Event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=129631763800719

Third! This Satuday, September 10th, is Austin Pride and we’re going as a group to the parade! The parade starts at 10:30 am so in order to get sweet seats we’ll be meeting in front of the Co-op on Guadalupe St. at 9:30 am and taking the bus down to 4th St. and Congress (your UT ID doubles as a free bus pass!) Facebook Event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=225594977489200

QSA is hosting an LGBTQ open house/info session on Speedway Plaza (in front of the SAC) with the Human Rights Campaign! Drop by, chat with us, and pick up some free Amy’s Ice Cream. - “Horns2Horns” Peer Mentor Program
QSA is sponsoring a peer mentor program, matching students interested in the LGBTQ community at UT Austin with students already familiar with the campus and the community. The application for both the interested student (mentee) and the peer mentor is right here and is due Sunday, September 18th, 2011.

- Friday and Saturday, October 14th & 15th Queer Texas Conference
